About BOTOX

Dr. Lee was selected the BOTOX Instructor for physicians and nurses in the State of Nevada for the manufacturer, Allergan, in Las Vegas and Henderson, among the TOP 1% chosen from 700+ Nevada Clinics. To diminish the effects of aging and to prevent lines, wrinkles, and lax skin from forming on the forehead and upper face, Look Younger MD is proud to offer BOTOX to Henderson, NV. This facial rejuvenation procedure provides amazing results and is popular among both men and women. BOTOX can make a dramatic enhancement to dynamic facial wrinkles, which are the result of expressions and movement with the muscles contracting on the forehead. The lines disappear as the face relaxes, though static creases--from loose skin--can still exist. BOTOX is a purified strain of botulinum toxin (type A) that temporarily blocks the movements of the underlying tissue and muscle. To diminish the appearance of these dynamic lines and wrinkles, BOTOX is injected to relax and soften skin tension. This specific injection is most commonly placed by Dr. Garry Lee between the brows where the number "11" appears, on the Crow's feet, and throughout the forehead.

Ideal Candidates for botox

BOTOX is used for individuals who hope to diminish and soften the appearance of dynamic wrinkles, lines, and moderate folds on their face without surgery. BOTOX is often thought of as a preventive treatment even if static wrinkles have not yet formed — keeping in mind how often you tend to make facial expressions. It is an effective nonsurgical solution if you have obvious forehead lines or frown lines between the brows. It's also a solution for Crow's feet around the eyes. If you have deeper lines, a combination of BOTOX and a filler may be a better option is certain selected areas. As a TOP Allergan BOTOX injector, Dr. Lee has been selected to the Allergan Medical Facial Aesthetic National Advisory Board and the Allergan New Core National Advisory Board.

botox Procedure Technique

BOTOX injectable treatments are done as an outpatient procedure at Look Younger MD. If it is your first time to visit us in the Las Vegas, NV area for BOTOX, we may perform the injection within the same appointment as your consultation with Dr. Lee. You will be asked to make various facial expressions using your upper face--such as squinting and frowning--which will allow us to decide precisely where your injections should be placed in your forehead, frown lines, and Crow's Feet. Your skin will then be thoroughly cleansed before his AccuVein analysis.   Dr. Lee was selected Nevada's AccuVein Instructor on this advanced new technology to painlessly view and to avoid veins invisible to the naked eye.  The AccuVein, followed by a cold compress, dramatically minimizes swelling and bruising .  We will then prepare you with complimentary numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable.  BOTOX injections typically take about 10 – 15 minutes, after which you can get back to your normal day almost right away.

Slim & Contour with Botox, Henderson NV

For those who want to slim the contours of their face for a more feminine and oval appearance, Botox can be injected into the masseter (chewing) muscle. Botox injections here will relax the masseter muscle preventing clenching--which causes the muscle to enlarge, or hypertrophy--much like men who intentionally exercise to enlarge their biceps muscle. Of course, relaxing the muscle will not only prevent flexion, but over a period of time will cause the muscle to shrink, or atrophy, increasing the oval appearance of your face. For this to work, you must consistently re-inject Botox into the masseter muscle before the effect wears off every 3 to 6 months, so as not to allow it to be exercised again and to re-enlarge. Certain ethnic groups and those with Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) problems or teeth grinding are especially prone to excessively enlarged lower facial contours--but now, we can treat it!

What to Expect with botox

After BOTOX injections, you are allowed to return to your typical schedule, but strenuous activities like exercise should be postponed for at least a day. You do not have to sleep upright or to move the injected muscles, which was an old protocol taught years ago without validation. The treated areas of the face may become bruised, red, or swollen for a couple of days, but you should not have any severe or lasting side effects. In the majority of cases, it takes about 7 days for BOTOX to be 74% effective, but the full effects of BOTOX become visible two weeks later.

Clinical studies from Allergan show BOTOX Cosmetic lasts about 2½ months to four months, but in reality BOTOX may last longer or shorter depending upon an individual’s metabolism, medications, age, dosage, and lifestyle. Those who may have a shorter duration of Botox effectiveness include elite athletes and those who are on hormone therapy--particularly thyroid medications--as well as human growth hormone and other metabolic enhancing products. Those with longer potential for duration include those with slower metabolic rates as well as those with much larger dosages of Botox. There is some thought that really large doses may last much longer, but clinical studies are still lacking.  We have had patients tell us anecdotally that their Botox is lasting up to six months—or even longer—and one must always keep in mind that clinical studies only give you the average duration for an individual and that actual patient duration is more in line with a bell shaped curve.

Another thing to note is that once an individual knows their own inherent average duration, that this tends to persist for future treatments in alignment with their baseline metabolism for Botox. Consequently if an individual runs on a four month cycle, typically they will continue running the four month cycle for future treatments.

One thing that can be done for an any patient who finds that their Botox duration is too short is to consider shifting to another neuromodulator such as Dysport, because the different product also has different carrier proteins which may have an effect in the duration of effectiveness and relaxation of the injected muscles, particularly in the case where there is some thought that a tolerance may be developing for Botox.  Another consideration is age because the age of the patient definitely impacts directly upon metabolism as one gets older and one’s metabolic rate tends to decrease.

Duration of action can also depend upon where one is injecting--such as in the armpits for hyperhidrosis—typically with duration of action of about seven months in our clinical experience.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

When should I start the injections?

Botox may be started from 18 years of age on up, typically begun when you first notice wrinkles on your forehead, your Crow's Feet, or in the frown lines between your eyes. Starting early prevents the muscles from accentuating by preventing the muscles from repeatedly flexing and enlarging, relaxing the wrinkles.

Do the Botox injections hurt?

Botox is injected with tiny needles, however, we are one of the few Medical Clinics here who routinely use Specially Compounded (complementary) topical numbing cream beforehand to minimize any discomfort. Moreover, of the 700 Botox Clinics in this area, Dr. Lee was hand-picked as the Clinical Instructor by Allergan--the Botox manufacturer--to TEACH physicians and nurses the best injection techniques. Dr. Lee is the ONLY Las Vegas Physician to WIN all four (4) of the National Cosmetic Injection Awards in the USA--over hundreds of the TOP Plastic Surgeons, Dermatologists, and Cosmetic Physicians in the country, from Beverly HIlls to New York City.

What should I do to prepare for my injections?

We recommend you avoid using make-up, since we must remove it to properly clean your skin just prior to treatment. Unless medically indicated, we suggest you avoid taking Aspirin, Motrin, and other anticoagulants (Tylenol is OK) to reduce the risk of bruising for at least a week prior to treatment. Also, our patients notice that they are hypersensitive around their menstrual cycle, so we recommend you plan accordingly.

Will I need to resume injections after my initial treatment?

According to Allergan, Botox lasts 2.5 months to 4 months before needing re-treatment, with most patients re-scheduling at about 3 months, depending upon one's individual metabolism. Often patients are certain they last much longer, but this may be due to not noticing how long it actually lasts. Higher doses may indeed last longer in the latest research.

Are neuromodulators only for women?

No, about 7% of our patients are men, typically the Super-Achievers who want to be their best at everything! Often, they want to maximize how they look to increase both their business and personal success.

What exactly does Botox do?

Botox relaxes the overactive muscles in the upper face, preventing you from excessively exercising them and preventing flexing these muscles which creates static (wrinkles that appear with movement) wrinkles.

Can Botox damage your face?

Botox just relaxes the muscles which are injected--it does not damage your face. However, an inexperienced doctor or nurse may inadvertently inject into the wrong muscle causing drooping eyelids and eyebrows and impaired smiles. Fortunately, these results are temporary as the effect wears off in about 3-months.
