Dr. Lee:
Hello. We're here today with a lovely lady, just gorgeous. And if you don't mind, would you mind introducing yourself?

Doreen:
Yes. My name is Doreen.

Dr. Lee:
And Doreen... Doreen came here with a problem that she's had for... Has it been about a year?

Doreen:
Yes.

Dr. Lee:
And what was it exactly?

Doreen:
I had severe TMJ clenching, to the point where I did shatter a crown. The pain would shoot up the side, through the temple, and actually felt like a ice pick stabbing me in the head.

Dr. Lee:
Ooh, ooh.

Doreen:
It was severe.

Dr. Lee:
So you clenched down so hard with your teeth... We call that the masseter muscle, which is... Can you point to the muscle for us? And you would clench so hard that you actually shattered a tooth?

Doreen:
Yes.

Dr. Lee:
And what did it cost to replace that tooth, or that crown?

Doreen:
Cost about $550 with insurance.

Dr. Lee:
Okay. And then the pain was a six out of 10.

Doreen:
Yes.

Dr. Lee:
And now we've put Botox in the masseter muscle.

Doreen:
Yes.

Dr. Lee:
And Botox is used to relax it so you can't clench.

Doreen:
Correct.

Dr. Lee:
And now you did try the usual things. You tried something for your teeth, a tooth guard or something?

Doreen:
It didn't really help very much. But after the injection, the day after, it was amazing.

Dr. Lee:
Pretty quick?

Doreen:
Yes.

Dr. Lee:
Ooh, baby.

Doreen:
There was no pain at all. It's wonderful.

Dr. Lee:
Your pain went from a six out of 10 to-

Doreen:
To, like, zero.

Dr. Lee:
Zero.

Doreen:
It was wonderful.

Dr. Lee:
And then it would shoot up on your temple or your head?

Doreen:
All the way up the temple.

Dr. Lee:
Yeah. And then the problem with... We have people that clench and they tend to be perfectionists, super achievers, just like this young lady. And then they worry, and then when they chew, they wear out the joint called the TMJ.

Doreen:
Yes.

Dr. Lee:
Temporal mandibular joint. And sometimes it shoots up to your head and that can be quite excruciating.

Doreen:
Yes. It's very painful.

Dr. Lee:
And then we... It's actually pretty frequent that people bite so hard they shatter their teeth, and so we've seen that happen. And then the clenching is improved. What percent improvement with the clenching?

Doreen:
I'd say 90%, 100%.

Dr. Lee:
Whoa.

Doreen:
It doesn't hurt anymore.

Dr. Lee:
Okay.

Doreen:
I would like to also add that because of the clenching, I ruined my gums.

Dr. Lee:
Oh no.

Doreen:
I did. I have to have-

Dr. Lee:
Oral surgery?

Doreen:
Oral surgery to correct the gums-

Dr. Lee:
Wow.

Doreen:
... and graft the skin on the bone now, so-

Dr. Lee:
Can you tell us what it would cost to do the oral surgery? Because it's... roughly.

Doreen:
I'm not exactly sure with the insurance, but I think it's a couple of grand, at least two grand with the insurance. So it gets pricey.

Dr. Lee:
We are most fortunate to have you here, and she's very sweet.

Doreen:
Oh, thank you.

Dr. Lee:
And thank you for... See, we have a lot of people that come here and most people are very shy to talk about it. And I just wanted you to know we appreciate your chit-chatting because people don't know that we can help by injecting Botox in this area.

Doreen:
[inaudible 00:03:09].

Dr. Lee:
Is this something that you would recommend to-

Doreen:
Absolutely. And everybody's wonderful here. I've been coming here for about the last year and a half for other procedures, and I feel wonderful.

Dr. Lee:
No, she's just a wonderful person, that's all.

Doreen:
I feel great.

Dr. Lee:
Well, thank you very much.

Doreen:
Thank you.

Dr. Lee:
Dr. Lee, and we appreciate your time signing off on TMJ for the masseter muscle.

Doreen:
Thank you.

Dr. Lee:
Thank you so much.
