Botox FAQs

  1. How long does Botox or last?
Botox usually lasts 2½ to 4 months, depending upon your individual metabolism. People with faster metabolisms or those who are on certain hormones (i.e. growth hormone or thyroid) may only last one or two months; conversely, those with slower metabolisms may last up to 6 months. Typically, patients schedule at 3 or 4 month intervals to maintain their best appearance.

  2. Is there an advantage to regularly scheduling Botox?
Yes! Scheduling routine Botox injections can cause upper facial muscles--which are too large--to atrophy and shrink from lack of exercise, much like a bodybuilder’s biceps loss of size when not in training.

  3. Why can’t I get Botox just above my eyebrows?
Remember that Botox works by relaxing the injected muscle, so relaxing the occipital-frontalis muscle just above the eyebrow could cause your eyebrow to droop, a condition which is usually irreversible and which may last up to 4 months. Even worse, injection just above the middle of the eyebrow can paralyze the upper eyelid and cause it to droop, blocking your vision. Consequently, most injectors give a wide safety margin above the eyebrows.

  4. So…what can be done to fix wrinkles just above the eyebrows?
This are can be treated with the injection of Juvederm or Restylane to lift up loose skin without muscle paralysis. However, only highly experienced injectors should do this area due the heightened risk of accidently injecting into blood vessels.
