Juvéderm PROCEDURE Technique

Juvéderm injections commonly take less than an hour, depending upon which areas are being corrected and the amount of correction you select. Your face will be thoroughly cleaned and injection spots will be selected using the advanced AccuVein System to painlessly view veins invisible to the naked eye.  AccuVein has selected Dr. Lee as one of their instructors to minimize bruising and swelling by avoiding most blood vessels.  To reduce discomfort during the process, Juvéderm dermal fillers contain a local anesthetic, though Dr. Lee also offers complimentary topical numbing cream.  After your treatment, he recommends you apply ice to the treated area as tolerated, after which you may return to your daily routine, but strenuous exercise should be avoided for until the following morning. We recommend you avoid touching your face after your treatment to avoid inadvertently massaging the filler into undesired areas.  If any sculpting after treatment is necessary, Dr. Lee will smooth it himself once swelling has abated.

What to Expect WITH Juvéderm

You typically experience a marked improvement immediately after your Juvéderm procedure, but while Dr. Lee is a national leader of the Microcannula and AccuVein anti-bruising techniques, you still may develop mild swelling or bruising in the treated areas for a few days. The results of Juvéderm dermal fillers usually are visible for up to one year; some patients find that their improvements last longer after multiple years of treatments. Talk to Dr. Lee about when to book a touch-up or full session at Look Younger MD to keep your results.

Juvederm FAQ's

1) How long do Juvéderm fillers last?

Juvéderm injectable wrinkle fillers last from six months to two years, depending upon the type of Juvéderm and the location it's placed. Juvéderm in lips--Juvéderm Ultra-- typically just lasts six months because movement of the lips increases breakdown, decreasing filler duration. Juvéderm in the marionette lines, nasolabial folds, and submalar areas--Juvederm Ultra Plus--usually lasts 9 to 12 months, with the typical patient returning in one year for a quick touch-up. Juvederm Voluma is FDA approved to last up to two years and is used in the deep cheek areas.

2) Is Juvéderm better than Botox?

Juvéderm and Botox are both made by the same company, Allergan, but Botox is designed to relax wrinkle muscles in the upper face, while Juvéderm is designed to fill in loose skin wrinkles in the lower face.

Botox works by relaxing the facial muscles in the forehead, Crow’s Feet, and the frowning wrinkles between your eyes, caused by muscle flexion. These are called dynamic wrinkles—wrinkles that are present only with muscle movement.

On the other hand, Juvéderm simply replaces the fat which is naturally lost from aging with hyaluronic gel, a natural sugar already present within your body.

Juvéderm and BOTOX do not compete with each other; they complement each other, because they each enhance different areas of the face. Together, they are often called a "liquid facelift" though only surgery can give you a true facelift.

3) How much is a syringe of Juvéderm?

Prices vary widely depending upon the experience and skill of the injector. Physicians generally charge more than nurse practitioners, nurses, and physician assistants because of the length of their training. New injectors must discount deeply to get patients, while experienced injectors, clinical instructors, national lecturers, published authors, and award winning practitioners tend to charge more. Injectors with perfect 5.0 Patient Reviews on Google and Yelp tend to charge more than those with average Patient Reviews. Large volume Juvéderm practices get volume discounts and hence may often be more inexpensive than one would think, so we recommend you call to ask. In Las Vegas and Henderson, Nevada, Juvéderm prices range from $400 to $700 per 1.0 cc syringe.

4) What is Juvéderm best for?

Juvéderm is best for facial wrinkles below the eyes, in the cheeks, submalar areas just below the cheek, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, perioral lines (smoker's lines), and lips. Juvéderm simply replaces the subcutaneous fat lost from aging with hyaluronic gel, a sugar already present in your body.

5) How long does it take Juvéderm to settle?

Juvéderm takes effect immediately upon injection and does not need to "settle." However, Juvéderm can be beautifully sculpted with digital pressure to better shape it to smooth out wrinkles as long as months after injection.

6) What should you avoid before and after getting Juvéderm?

With your doctor's approval, we recommend you avoid any type of blood thinner like aspirin, motrin, fish oil, etc., to minimize bruising. We also suggest you avoid cardio exercise just after treatment because it causes your blood vessels to dilate, leading to increased risk of bruising. Avoid heavy digital pressure over the injection sites because this can cause migration of Juvéderm away from the area intended. You may resume your normal exercise regimen the next morning.
